AmEx: Shit Listed!

Granted … I fucked up this morning.

I have been paying my AmEx bill online for the past few months. This morning I got online before heading out to work to pay the bill. And somehow (through my stupidity, I suspect), when I input the amount I wanted to pay, instead of it taking $150.00 it took $1,500.00. Of course I noticed this mistake a wee too late to stop it. I immediately called AmEx’s Customer Service to see if we could correct the problem. The nice (and foreign) lady informed me that since I had selected an immediate payment instead of a scheduled payment there was nothing she could could to to change the payment amount of cancel the payment. Basically it was “Sorry. You’re screwed.” I then called my bank and they seemed more willing to help with this problem. Of course they couldn’t do anything until the payment got into their system. It sounds like they will call AmEx and (I guess) request they transfer the money back and then I will make a payment in the correct amount.

Call me crazy for expecting a credit card company to be helpful. Once the AmEx is paid off I think I’ll just cancel that account and shred the damn card.

Sheesh.

I sure do hope things work out … or otherwise I am gonna be somewhat financially screwed.
