My purchase of The Ring yesterday got me thinking. Why is it that movie studios shell out tons of money for artwork for the theatrical release of a film only to ditch that art when the movie makes it to video? As a graphic artist, this really bugs me. There has been some spectacular art just tossed to the side. Ocean’s 11 is one of my favorite examples. You have this really sweet art that is tossed away for a bad collage of the cast. Maybe the thinking is that folks won’t buy the video/dvd without Bad Pitt and George Clooney’s faces plastered all over the box. Meanwhile, studios are paying twice for someone like me to come up with graphics. That’s just dumb … in my opinion.~
