Oh, baby! The new television has been installed and is working just great. I had to resist the urge to start re-watching all my movies since I can now see them much, much bigger. Whoo!
Every single person that has found out I have gotten the television has asked, “Does this mean you are going to get cable now?” The answer to that question is “NO!” I still think there aren’t enough good programs out there to warrent me taking on a $$ cable/satellite bill.
Yup. The television is just for watching movies … lots of movies … and hosting some cool movie marathon parties.
One thing that I did discover this weekend is that your regular dvd player will look just fine on a HDTV as long as you are able to hook it up using component video cables as opposed to the standard composite (yellow, red, white) cables. I first used the composite cables and the picture looked pretty bad … all fuzzy and pixelated. So, I went out and got some component cables and things are looking much better. Granted, I am not currently getting the 720 or 1080 resolution that the television delivers, but it’s good for me for right now. I imagine at some point in the future I will upgrade to a dvd player that upconverts with an HDMI cable.
So, if you plan on purchasing a fancy television like this … I think you can ignore the sales pitch that you have to buy a new upconvert dvd player immediately. Get those component cables and you’ll be real happy … like I am!

Glad it’s working and that you are happy with it………..
“every single person”?
Well … YOU didn’t.
