Next week, the new DJ Shadow album drops into stores. Called “The Outsider,” it’s his first proper album since 2002’s “The Private Press.” There’s been buzz on the net that the new album is a departure from his ususal sound. Well, the buzz seems to be right. If the four tracks posted on his MySpace page are any real indication … I might just have to skip this one. And, that makes me sad ’cause I loves me some DJ Shadow.
I picked up the Enuff/You Made It single off iTunes last week, and while “Enuf” is straight up Hip Hop, “You Made It” is fucking awesome and nothing like his previous releases. The closest it sounds to is the mix he did for Keane’s “Might As Well Be Strangers” a while back.
Well … if it’s balanced out I can probably handle it. I find that kind of rap/hip hop that “Enuff” is to be pretty grating. I’ve been expecting him to go totally hip hop for a bit.
