Now that the major dvd purchases were made yesterday, I need to track down a copy of Beginning of the End (also released yesterday). It’s Bert I. Gordon’s fantastic 1957 movie about giant, radioactive locusts that attack a few small towns and head to Chicago for some major mayhem. It’s stars Peter Graves and Peggie Castle and has only been available so far in the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 version. The great thing about this movie is that they try so hard to make it good. The special effects are so damn cheesey though. You can’t beat grasshoppers crawling over a picture of the Chicago skyline. It’s pure cinema gold!
