Christy was nice enough to go camera shopping with me yesterday as it does appear that my PowerShot S1 IS is dead. You know, there really are way too many choices when it comes to digital cameras. After an hour or so of looking at Best Buy, I have narrowed the choices down to three different cameras.
1. Canon Digital Rebel XT
2. Nikon D50
3. Canon PowerShot S2 IS
I need to do my taxes this week just to make sure there are no nasty surprises (i.e. possibly owing our dictatorship any money) and that will help inform the final decision.

I was in the US this xmas and shopped around in Orlando and LA. I landed on the Nikon D50. The battery is incredible and its pretty easy to use and get use to.
What was interesting was that it cost 799 everywhere. Even in California, but the sales tax was higher. I bought it at a photoshop cause they knew what they were talking about unlike the post pub guys at best buys and C city who really just sort of pull it out of their ass alot (not in the good way).
My friend Christy (who’s a professional photographer) uses Nikon and was really pointing me towards the D50. She has Nikon’s next step up from the D50 and loves it. When we were in Best Buy she was teachin’ ’em a thing or two about cameras. It was fun to watch.
Get the Rebel XT. I have the first generation of that one and still love it!
Once you settle on a model, check buydig.com and see if they carry it and for how much. That’s where I bought my Canon EOS 20D SLR, and it was far less expensive than anyplace locally. (I also got the new Sharp Aquos from them, again for bunches less than anywhere else, plus no tax and free shipping!! Saved a bundle.)
