“The Devil’s Backbone” (2001, Guillermo del Toro)
This movie was so sweet … a ghost/revenge story finally done with some intelligence and flair. This one gets so many bonus points for doing things that would never, ever even be thought of for American audiences. See it. Definately.

“The Amityville Horror” (2005, Andrew Douglas)
Lots of sound and fury that eventually blows itself out. I think the “dad’s posessed” story line is really what’s been wrong with the Amityville flicks. Almost redeems itself in the last five minutes but doesn’t. Ryan Reynolds was shirtless enough during the movie for me to feel like I had gotten my $5.50 worth.

“Solaris” (1972, Andrei Tarkovsky)
Not for the faint of heart where “cinema” is concerned. Great movie to see for fans for long and arty (and Russian). Beats the socks off the Soderbergh/Clooney version.

“Intermission” (2003, John Crowley)
Fun (and funny) little film about romance and kidnapping in Dublin. A great cast makes this one worth a look see.
