November has suddenly arrived, and with it comes the yearly weeks-long panic attack about signing up for health insurance. Last year, my premium went up over 200%, and it is set to do the same for 2027 (if I stay on my existing plan). It should be criminal for your health insurance to cost almost as much as your mortgage payment. Ugh!
Meanwhile …

David always drags out my VHS copy of the ’80s porn classic, Gayracula, at parties just to get a laugh out of everyone. This has annoyed me for years because he’s making fun of a super campy and SUPER HOT porn film that he has never seen. I have never shown it to him because I have become terrified of the VCRs in the house after the one in the bedroom started eating every tape that was put into it. So, Gayracula has not been seen in this house for ages.
Flashback!
A while back, I ran across a notebook where I was making notes of what was in my official HIS Video release and a duped copy BJ had sent me. My memory of this is that I was taking notes so he could do a detailed page on his blog about Gayracula and the cuts that had been made to it. Nothing ever came of it, though, for some reason.

Anyhoo …
A few weeks ago, David flashed my Gayracula VHS around at another party, and that got my brain going on trying to find a DVD copy. A Google search quickly led me to Bijou Video, but they had the DVD listed at 62 minutes, and the description stated it was the cut version. They said something about it being standard practice back in the day to cut down porn films. But within a few days, they announced that an uncut “source” had been found, and they would be selling the uncut version from that point forward. Whoot!
“Newly remastered by Bijou in 2026, restored to its original 83 minute length! Previously missing scenes featured in this edition include an orgiastic occult ritual, a climactic vampire showdown, and additional sex sequences.”
I am not so sure that Gayracula has been “newly remastered” or “restored.” I suspect they got access to an uncut VHS, like the one I have, and just copied that over onto DVD. I won’t complain about that because something is better than nothing. Now, I can watch Steve Collins (SWOON!), Tim Kramer and company work their hard on inducing magic again without having to worry about getting a mangled tape for my troubles. Yay!
So, here we are. The uncut HIS Video VHS and the Bijou Classics uncut DVD. My only complaint would be that “He’ll suck you dry!” is a much, much better tag phrase than “He can’t live without dick!” AND! It would have been nice if that had kept that cool logo from the original release, but that’s just the designer in me being fussy.
