For some crazy reason the local Best Buy has the Blu-ray set of “Doctor Who: The Complete Sixth Series” stickered at $36.99 retail (not the $74.99 retail it should be). SCORE!!!

Criterion “Films in Context” Contest

The Criterion Collection had a contest on their Facebook page a few weeks ago where fans could do their own product shots putting the movie in a setting that would be in context of the movie. They called it “Films in Context” and I ended up submitting seven photos. Some of the ones I did worked pretty well, some didn’t and some I photoshop-ed together just for hell of it. They were going to pick 10 finalists and then the Facebook page followers could vote on which one they liked the best. Apparently, they received 1,300 entries. So, ten “Honorable Mentions” were awarded as well because the quality of the submissions were so high. The top photo of this post (for the movie “Gomorrah“) was chosen as one of the honorable mentions. It was pretty cool to crack the top 20 out of 1,300 submissions. I am a little bummed that my picture for “Videodrome” didn’t get any play … because I thought it was pretty swank.
Alive and Broke!

I went a little nuts at the Barnes and Noble’s Criterion Collection 50% Off Sale.
Tom and Jerry!!!

Oh … My … God. This news has made my year!!!
Tom and Jerry! Remastered! Uncut! Uncensored! In Chronological Order!
I need to go change my underwear now.
Oh … Hells … Yes!!!

Out on DVD and Blu-ray today is “Fringe: The Complete Second Season!” I, for one, am super excited as I only got to see up to the mid-season break before “Seussical” destroyed my brain. Now I can catch up with Dunham, Walter and Peter (mmmm … Joshua Jackson!!!).
Damn You, Blu-Ray

My next upgrade from the DVD collection has been announced for October 26th … ’cause, honestly, how can I not have “Alien” and “Aliens” in high definition. Time to start saving my pennies!!!
Dr. Who-Definition!

Needless to say, I am pretty damned excited about this. I am sure that Dr. Phibes is too … after his visit from Santa this past year. The release date is February 2nd … less than one month away!!!
Happiest Day of the Year

November 10 is gonna be an excellent day!!!
And yes, I do realized the contradiction of posting about bloody horror in one post and fluffy animation in the next.
When-Oh-When?

Announced initially for May 19th, there is still no word when one of my favorite-est Pixar movies will make it’s high definition debut.
Next Week: Watchmen Blu-ray!!!

So … how excited am I getting about the Blu-ray release of “Watchmen?”
Pretty. Damn. Excited.
Not only will the disc be the director’s cut of the film … it will also include Maximum Movie Mode (which plays the movie along with a video presentation by director Zack Snyder, and includes behind-the-scenes footage, comic comparisons, trivia, etc.).
Three Quickies
1. The H1N1 scare at work ended up being just that … a scare. We found out on Tuesday that the co-worker didn’t have to go get tested after all. Makes me wonder why she told us that she was being tested in the first place.
2. I finished up Season One of “True Blood” and it was really awesome. I am now on to reading the second of the Southern Vampire Mysteries books, “Living Dead in Dallas.”
3. Being smitten really sucks … and I mean REALLY SUCKS.
True Blood-iness
In what little free time I have, I’ve been watching the first season of the HBO series of “True Blood” … and it’s pretty damn awesome.
It also doesn’t hurt that there is some pretty nice eye candy in the show as well.
For the record: Sam Merlotte wins out over Jason Stackhouse … hands down!

Sam Merlotte (Played by Sam Trammell)

Jason Stackhouse (Played by Ryan Kwanten)
