With Avengers: Infinity War opening this weekend, it’s time to totally slip back into my Chris Evans/Captain America Obsession. *sigh*
Daily
And Then This Happened

Over the weekend, I stood in line an hour and a half for Record Store Day excitement. I did end up getting the RSD Belly 10″ Feel EP that I was after. Pretty sweet. But, more importantly, I found an original pressing of the Cocteau Twins‘ debut album, Garlands! I have been wanting this for quite some time, so I am totally knocked out that I finally found a copy. *squee!*
But The Good Thing Is …
All this extra work means more bank for the annual B&N/Criterion 50% Off Sale in July. I am going to go broke this year as Criterion has been putting out a lot of good stuff.
The Dietrich & von Sternberg in Hollywood set looks amazing with six early Hollywood films from director Josef von Sternberg featuring German actress Marlene Dietrich.
And … I would love to get the 100 Years of Olympic Films: 1912-2012 set but have not been able to justify dropping the $$$ on it (mainly just for Olympia and Tokyo Olympiad).

Too Damn Busy
Friday Statement
Thank Christ this week is over. Hopefully the weekend will be pleasant and eradicate my can’t-do-anything-right-I-am-a-total-fucking-doormat mood.
Meanwhile …

I have never been an emotional eater (thank goodness) but I have always been an emotional spender. Thanks to my mood (and my completionist OCD issues), I now have the last two Miles Davis “Complete Sessions” box sets that I needed to have the full series. I was able to find new and sealed copies which was pretty awesome. I really should have bought these back when they first came out as the collector’s market has made the pricing a bit crazy. The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions was originally put of as a metal-bound book in a slipcase and then later released in a standard long box edition, so I suspect that is why the pricing isn’t so bad for this set. The Complete On the Corner Sessions is a whole other issue. It was only released as a metal-bound book in a metal slipcase. So it seems like this release is much harder to find … thus the really high secondary market pricing. And I am now eyeing getting The Cellar Door Sessions 1970. Yeah. I apparently have more money than brains and should probably have my eBay and PayPal accounts taken away from me. Either that or spend the money I just spent on these Miles Davis sets on a therapist.
Friday Mood

Woke up in a funky mood and it has not improved at all as the day has gone along. I feel like I can’t do or say anything right in regards to the various things that have been weighing on my mind over the last few weeks. Ugh. Tomorrow might need to be one of those “have too much to drink” kind of days.
Classic Doctor Who on Blu!

In “pretty damn exciting” news … the BBC is putting out the complete first series of Tom Baker’s run as Doctor Who on Blu-ray on June 19. And them new extras look really sweet! It’s great that the BBC are doing this as the DVD’s have been going out of print and fetch hefty prices now on the secondary market. Plus, this handy little package will be a real saver of self space. Hopefully sales will be good enough to keep them producing other sets.
The only quibble I have with this is that they are calling it “Season 1.” It was Tom Baker’s first season on the show but was really the 12th overall. The UK release reflects this and is branded as “Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 12.” I guess it was deemed this would be confusing to us Yanks … even though any fan of the show would why the season number should really be “12.” Oh well. I am just happy this is being produced.
Doctor Who: Tom Baker Complete First Season includes:
- Existing Extras:
- Existing bonus material from the original DVD’s
- Brand New Bonus Features:
- Brand new one hour candid interview: ‘Tom Baker in conversation’
- Behind The Sofa: classic clips from Season 12 viewed by Tom Baker, Philip Hinchcliffe, Louise Jameson, Janet Fielding, Sarah Sutton and Sadie Miller
- New making-of documentaries for ‘The Sontaran Experiment’ and ‘Revenge of the Cybermen’
- Optional brand new updated special effects for Revenge of the Cybermen
- Genesis of the Daleks: omnibus movie version
- The Tom Baker Years: VHS release on disc for the first time
- Production archive material and scripts from the BBC Archives
- Some other archive treats to be announced
And … Rejected
So, I auditioned for The Full Monty … and I didn’t get the part. It’s been a long time since I have auditioned for a show, and I had forgotten how much it sucks to be turned down. Social media doesn’t make it any easier when the director and actors (who got in the show) start posting all over the place about it.
Audition Timeline:
Monday: Auditioned in the first group and got told to come to the Callbacks on Wednesday
I felt pretty good about my audition and being asked back.
Tuesday: Was stressed all day about going to the Callback
Wednesday: Was stressed all day and went to the Callbacks with about 10-15 other people
After the callbacks, I felt like I didn’t have much chance of getting in the show (for various reasons).
Thursday: Got a call from the director saying I had not been cast.
I initially felt okay about not getting cast but as the day wore on that changed over to feeling pretty depressed. Yeah. I was way too invested in getting into the show and that can always lead to crushing disappointment.
Friday: The cast list hits social media and I get an email from the stage manager about not getting in the show with a cast list attached.
Saturday Night: I run into the music director at a show and he tells me I auditioned well but lost out because it was decided to “cast to type” … which confuses me (considering I was the right age for the role and this was really not a character you need a “type” for … IMHO).
This post is not meant to be bitchy about the theater, people, or their process. I know how the audition game goes considering the amount of shows I have directed. The auditions were run really well and I didn’t feel like they were inconsiderate of my time. And I did think it was really awesome of the director to call me personally. It takes a certain amount of balls to call someone you are not offering a part to. I know I have never been able to bring myself to do it. I always just send out a “Thanks for Auditioning … But” e-mail.
I will say Friday and Saturday felt a little like being constantly bitch slapped. Every time I got on the computer (and when I went to that show), it kind of felt like I was having the fact I didn’t get in thrown in my face. Again, that’s not the fault of anyone. It’s just the wonderful world of social media and small towns.
I debated about blogging about the auditions. You can’t always be cast when going up against other people. I am just typing my feeling down to try and get them off my chest.
Anyhoo. Now I know that I won’t be running around like crazy for two months and will have plenty of time to sit home and stare at the walls. 😛
Self-Doubt
This week has been pretty stressful because I am totally psyching myself out about something. More on this later as it seems a little silly to whine about the situation until I know the final outcome. “Whatever will be, will be” … right?
Tomorrow!

Diamanda Galás at Big Ears. Can’t. Fucking. Wait.
Dressing Room Throwback
Back in 2015/2016, I got in the mood to take selfies in the dressing room during the shows I worked on. I was onstage twice more but didn’t do any dressing room photos because one of the shows was stressful (Into the Woods) and I was just lazy during the other (God of Carnage).
It’s been over a year since God of Carnage and I am itching to get involved in a show sometime soon. [Fingers Crossed]
Helpful Hints:
Vest = Company
Nerd Glasses = The Fox on the Fairway
Suit = 12 Angry Men
Justice League: Mini Review

Finally saw Justice League this past weekend … and I can say that the only good thing about it is Henry Cavill being shirtless through the whole re-introduction of Superman. Amy Adams sure is lucky! 😛
