Crappy Holiday

Jebus … that holiday was depressing.

Here are some pictures from the Open House at Roger and Kat’s this past Saturday evening (no captions ’cause I am lazy) …

Name that 1979 Horror Film (Answer)

Ah, yes. I should have known that Dave would nail it quickly.

“Tourist Trap” (1979)
Directed by David Schmoeller.
With Chuck Connors, Jocelyn Jones, Jon Van Ness, Tanya Roberts, Robin Sherwood, Keith McDermott, Dawn Jeffory.

A group of teens on vacation get stranded in the middle of nowhere due to some mysterious car trouble. They are helped by Mr. Slausen (Chuck Connors), owner of Slausin’s Lost Oasis (a museum filled with animated mannequins). As their friends begin to disappear one by one, the remaining teens must avoid the attacks of a strange man in a mannequin-like mask in order to escape a fate worse than death.

Nice little horror gem that works especially well if you find mannequins to be the least bit creepy.

Sheesh, Homer. Hopefully your last date didn’t look like that … you handsome fella ya!

Post New Year (Redux)

Yeah. I haven’t had a whole hell of a lot to say since the start of the New Year. Had a fun-filled panic attack on New Year’s Day and have been dealing with the fallout ever since. Hooray for anxiety issues. Pretty much been a nervous wreck for the last week and a half with some calm moments where everything feels good and then toatlly wired moments where the entire bottom feels like it’s gonna drop out of my life. I suppose that I need to go back to the doctor, but I sure don’ t want to have to go back on Paxil again. That stuff is semi-evil.

And now … some more pictures you have already seen (for lack of anything better). It’s a gallery of almost all the photos I shot back in August of last year when I went to New York City to see the Fella. Yep. That’s some Wigstock in there, too. Enjoy …

Dead Yet?
Finally, one of my favorite films from the 90’s is getting the dvd treatment it deserves! Peter Jackson’s “The Frighteners” was released in 1996 and died a horrible death at the box office. Why, you might ask? The film was originally slated for a Fall/Halloween release date, but the film came in on time/under budget and was liked enough by the studio to “reward” it by bumping it into the summer release schedule. Bad news. “The Frighteners” opened one week after “Independence Day” and was ignored because of it.

Back in the heyday of LaserDiscs, Universal released a Signature Collection Edition of “The Frighteners” featuring (what is termed) a Director’s Fun Cut, Commentary by Peter Jackson and a 4-1/2 hour Making Of Documentary. Needless to say, this version of the movie has been near impossible to find since LaserDiscs are way out of fashion now.

Thankfully, Peter Jackson has become a Hollywood “it boy” and “The Frighteners” is getting a much needed re-release on dvd. Looks like the the new double-sided release is gonna contain all the Signature Collection LaserDisc features. Plus, it sports the original poster art which I have always considered to be one of the better movie posters ever made. Whoo-freakin’-Hoo!!!! See you at the store on November 29th!

Imploded!

Dang. Looks like the fun cabin weekend getaway with some close friends has imploded due to weather forecasts that are screaming for sleet, ice, freezing or snow … or all of the above at the same time. Whoo. After the stressful week I have had, I was looking forward to getting the heck outta Dodge for a few days. I had already purchased whiskey to sip by the fireside. I guess I’ll just have to sip it on my own with a horror film or two to keep me company.

Yeah. I’m wallowing in self-pity at the moment. I still haven’t been able to come to grips with just why the Evil one is still stuck in my head. It hits me on certain days and, yep, today has turned into one of those days.

I feel stupid for not having moved past this yet.

I feel stupid because I can actually use the word “years” when referring to this situation. Time is supposed to make things better, right?

I also know you all are tired on me harping on it. “Oh, look. That fella from North Carolina is on about that ‘Evil’ guy again. How boring.”

See. It would do you no good to date me. I would become obsessed and stalker-ish with you. That much is clear. And you would no idea it was going on because I would never, ever let on that something was up. You would be totally in the dark.

So, while you go off and find something far more exciting and interesting on the web, I’ll sit here with my Maker’s Mark and some horror films. Viva la weekend.~
