I am the world’s worst at not saying “no” to people. So, my wishy washy “maybe” replies always get me into situations that I don’t want to be involved in. This is something I am always struggling with. I need to learn to be more assertive in certain situations … and I now need to figure out how to (somewhat) gracefully extricate myself from one that I have gotten myself into. Such fun.
I Won! I Won!

In some better news … I have won one of Daniel Danger‘s limited edition Winchester posters from /Film. How cool is that? I have been hearing that the movie is not all that great, but this poster is super duper badass.
Out Next Week!
Holy crap! The new Criterion Collection edition of The Silence of the Lambs is a thing of beauty. *drools*
Pics were shamelessly stolen from the CriterionFourm.org Facebook Page.
Got Funk?
I’ve got funk … and not the good kind of groovy, dance-able funk. I was in a particularly down mood yesterday with today not being a whole lot better.
You know, it would be nice to be able to tell people off for being so unaware and unappreciative of the time you put into your work. But all that would do is piss them off and start a fight which wouldn’t change anything. Ugh.
Meanwhile …
– 60,000 Mile Service done on the Car ($$$)
– New Non-Stick Pan acquired
– Biltmore Annual Pass renewed
– Super Bowl Festivities were attended (good game!)
– Tax Crap is assembled and ready to go to the Accountant
– Continuing to read Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House
– Obsessing about auditioning for a show in Asheville
– More Heating Oil ordered (Winter, please go away!)
– Continuing to exercise daily (more on this later)
Great American Grizzly!
Oh my God … I can’t even … 😆
Meanwhile …
Randomness
What a lazy weekend. Not much really to report other than …
– Didn’t eat any food at BimBeriBon Friday night.
– I was in bed by 9:30 Friday night. Old Fart Alert!
– Took trash to the dump Saturday morning.
– Took a massive nap Saturday afternoon.
– Ate too much Papa John’s on Saturday night.
– Bought a copy of the screenplay for Three Billboards … on Sunday afternoon.
– Did three miles on the treadmill each day. Ugh.
Such excitement!
In “I Am About to Lose My Mind” News … I snagged a Saturday Day Pass to the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville. So, unless she cancels or I die before then or I can’t get into the venue due to “first come, first served” general admission seating, I will be seeing Diamanda Galás!!! Seeing her live has been something I have been dreaming about for about 30+ years. I am stupid excited about this!

Meanwhile … I have these two bad boys on pre-order. It’s about damn time 4AD re-issued more Cocteau Twins on vinyl.

And lastly … it might snow tonight. I love snow, but I am officially ready for warmer temps.
Mondo Arrival!

This beauty arrived on Wednesday. It’s the Mondo triple vinyl release of Aimee Mann‘s songs for and Jon Brion‘s score to Paul Thomas Anderson‘s criminally underappreciated film, Magnolia (1999)! I, of course, bought the color variant pressed on Sky Blue, Cloudy Blue (Chance of Rain), and Translucent Gold.
Snubbed?

It’s been interesting to see the outcry on the internet about Wonder Woman and its (supposed) Oscar nomination snubs. I like the movie. LIKE. When I went to see it at the movie theater, I enjoyed it but had some issues with the story (why is this set in WWI and not WWII?) and execution (oh hey, yet another generic, video game-esque CGI battle/climax). Gal Gadot is fine and Patty Jenkin‘s direction of the movie is fine too. FINE, not exceptional. There are certainly much better comic book movies out there (The Dark Knight and Captain America: The Winter Soldier to name a couple). I don’t think that Wonder Woman deserves a less of a critical eye because it’s the best of the (arguably) lackluster DC Extended Universe movies. Which means that I don’t think Wonder Woman rises to the level of being nominated for top honors at the Oscars.
Evening Statement
It’s always nice to feel marginalized.
(Part of me wonders if I have done this to myself.)
Busy (Doing Nothing)
Actually … the weekend was kinda busy.
David and I binged watched the new season of Grace and Frankie on Netflix. I do like the show … and I think we can all agree that Ethan Embry is totally adorable.

Saturday, we went to Asheville and saw separate movies. Paul Thomas Anderson‘s Phantom Thread FINALLY opened here and it was amazing.

We stopped at Diamond Brand after the movie(s), and I picked up a new water reservoir for my new pack. New hiking gear is always fun to get!
I went down to self-serve karaoke at Harmons’ Den Bistro on Saturday night because Kiki commanded that I be there. It was pretty fun singing 80’s new wave (my specialty).
PT, Stephanie and I went on a wee hike on Sunday. It was somewhat fun, but the ice on the trail made it less so. Fortunately, nobody broke anything.

I have been fighting being in a funk since Sunday afternoon. It’s another one of those “everything is fucked up and won’t get better” kind of things. Ugh. Right now, the funk is winning.
Maintenance
I really need to get off my ass and do some maintenance to the site. The first couple of years of this blog were on Blogger and they didn’t have headlines for posts. When I switched over to WordPress, headlines were required. So, when you search the archives, the headlines are the link to see the whole post … which means an archive search that brings up content that was created on Blogger won’t let you click through and get the whole post.
Will it be weird to go back fifteen years and start adding headlines? The way I was posting during the blogger days doesn’t really lend itself to having headlines on every post. Then maybe I should just add headlines to select posts?
Maybe I should just say “Fuck it!” and let readers see those posts via the month/year search feature?
Maybe I will just have a snowy day cocktail instead and worry about it later. That sounds like a best plan.
UPDATE:
What a dumbass I am. For posts that don’t have a headline you can click the date to access the full post. Going to have that cocktail anyway! 😛

I finally watched John Frankenheimer‘s Seconds. Rock Hudson does some damn fine acting and that ending is a gut punch. This one is going to stick with me for a long time.
Here’s the theatrical trailer …
