Friday Ramble

Hey-ho.

Another week almost down and July is just around the corner. Sheesh. I will ask the age old question … “Where have the last six months gone?” Seems like only yesterday I was watching a bunch of drunk people at 3:00 a.m. in the morning on New Year’s Day.
Anyhoo.

Weekend Plans? Well I have some. The main one is gonna be getting my ass out to the theater to see “Ratatouille,” the new Brad Bird/Pixar film. I have some Netflix movies plus more Almodovar films and “Spaced” Extra Features to watch. Plus, I need to start learning those lines for that part I am gonna understudy in a couple of weeks.

The yard needs mowing as well, but it’s rained every afternoon this week which has kept me from it. I am not complaining, mind you. The rain is very welcome here in the mountains. I can’t begin to tell you how dry it’s been here.

I also have to sit down at some point and draw up plans for a new DVD rack that I want to build. My DVD collection has taken a massive leap in quantity since last fall and I have officially run out of room to shelve them. To top it all off, I have two more dvds traveling this way from the U.K. Have I ever mentioned that I love being region free?

You'll Have Had Your Hole
Also traveling this way is a copy of Irvine Welsh’s play “You’ll Have Had Your Hole.” I got really excited yesterday when I saw that it was back in stock on Amazon. It’s been unavailable for quite some time.

Bonus Features Info

I was wondering when this would happen (and it may have happened already and I just didn’t notice).

The Region 1 releases of “Hot Fuzz” will be a regular DVD and an HD-DVD. Sad thing is that the HD-DVD is gonna contain about a bazillion more special features than the regular DVD release will. And, in my opinion that sucks. Check it …

Hot Fuzz: Region 1 DVD
DVD Bonus Features:
01. Outtakes
02. Deleted Scenes with Filmmaker Commentary
03. The Man Who Would Be Fuzz: Simon Pegg and Nick Frost act out a hilarious Hot Fuzz scene as Sean Connery and Michael Caine!
04. Fuzz-O-Meter: Select this feature and the trivia meter will run as you watch the film.
05. The Fuzzball Rally U.S.: Tour Piece- Join Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright on their outrageous nationwide press tour.
06. Audio Commentary with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright
07. And Many More Hilarious Features!

Hot Fuzz: Region 1 HD-DVD
HD DVD Bonus Features includes all features listed above, plus:
01. Audio Commentaries
– The Sandford Police Service: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jim Broadbent, Rafe Spall, Kevin Eldon and Olivia Colman
– The Sandford Village People – Kenneth Cranham, Timothy Dalton, Paul Freeman and Edward Woodward
– The Real Fuzz: Andy Leafe and Nick Eckland
02. We Made Hot Fuzz – “Making Of” Documentary
03. Speculative Video Blogs – 13 video blogs
04. Forensic: 8 Featurettes
05. Hearsay: Plot Holes and Comparisons
06. Special Effects: Before and After
07. Photographic Galleries
08. Falsified: “Dead Right”
– “Dead Right”: Edgar Wright’s First Cop Movie with Filmmaker Commentaries
– Am Blam: Making Dead Right

Crafty way to try and get the fan boys to upgrade to the HD-DVD format … right?

Hot Fuzz: Region 2 2-Disc Special Edition
But, if you happen to have a Region Free player (like I do), you can purchase the 2-Disc Special Edition DVD from Region 2 and have all the special features that will be available on the DVD and HD-DVD releases here in the States.

Sheesh. I hope this doesn’t become the standard for Region 1 dvds.

Spaced!

Spaced
My copy of “Spaced: The Definitive Collectors’ Edition” arrived yesterday. OMG … Is it some funny shit or what?!?! “Spaced” is the British sitcom that was done by the “Shaun of the Dead” fellas before they did “Shaun of the Dead.” I have watched about half of the first series and I am lovin’ it. Too bad it hasn’t had a release here in the states ’cause you have to be “region free” to watch. Oh man, this just further solidifies my love of Simon Pegg (and Edgar Wright for that matter).

While In New York (Redux)

Chris Evans!
Last Friday afternoon while kicking around, Scott and I decided to take in a movie. Unfortunately for us we chose “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.” Scott has some more detailed thoughts about this dreadful piece of crap movie … but I want to talk solely about (you guessed it) Chris Evans. He’s pretty much the only reason to see the film. Michael Chiklis doesn’t really have anything to do and Ioan Gruffudd and Jessica Alba are really terrible actors. And I mean REALLY terrible … as in laughably bad. But Chris Evans has got great spunk and personality on screen. Sad thing is that the shirtless scene he does is totally gratuitous and not necessary especially where it is just stuck into the cookie cutter plot. My advice: If you want to see Mr. Evans shirtless, watch “Cellular” which is a much better piece of popcorn entertainment. You can save your money on “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” by looking at the picture below.
