Remain Calm

Auditions are always fun. You never know who’s gonna show up or just how many. “Floyd Collins” is also a bit of an “unknown” as well considering it never got a Broadway run having played Off Broadway over ten years ago. Hopefully, we will have a better turn out tonight. It probably doesn’t help that (apparently) there is a rumor floating around that the part of Floyd has been precast … which is total bullshit.

Casting the show is 90% of the director’s job. Get a good cast and the rest is a cake walk. Last year was the first time I had trouble casting a show and it was pretty stressful. So, I am trying not to freak out … just yet.

“Wait and see who shows up tonight. Then freak out afterwards.”

And Now: “Floyd Collins”

Floyd Collins
Yeah. I am directing another show … and the auditions for “Floyd Collins” are Monday and Tuesday of next week!!!

I am gonna freely admit that this one has totally snuck up on me. Last year I had “Cabaret” all planned out before auditions even started. With “Floyd Collins” things still seem all up in the air with audition being next week. The set design is still in the discussion stages. I don’t have a clue how I am gonna block the damn show. I like to feel organized and on top of things and I don’t feel that way right now. Organization is key to make sure that your rehearsals run as smooth and stress free as possible. The one thing that has been decided for sure is that the Music Director (Chuck) will take the first three weeks of rehearsal just for music and will will begin blocking around the first of September. “Floyd Collins” will run weekends October 3 -19.

It’s now official that I will not be directing any of the main stage shows next year.

Manic Monday

Busy here at work and also not feeling the greatest either. “Bat Boy” seemed to go pretty well. The opening night audiences was enthusiastic. The most common statement about the production seemed to be “This has to be the weirdest show I have ever seen.” It will be interesting to see how this coming weekend sell.

Bright Idea!

Dr. Parker is taking a break. But right before I went on stage I had the wacky idea of live bloggin’ the opening night of “Bat Boy: The Musical.” I am gonna have to think pretty seriously about this one …

Theater Bloggin’

It’s now 9:00 and we just started Act II of “Bat Boy: The Musical.” It’s our final dress … thank you, Jebus.

Things that Dr. Parker needs for Act II:
Syringe Full of Deadly Poison. Check!
Knife for Stabbin’ and Killin’. Check!
Flask Full of Whiskey. Check!

Oh crap … I just started this post and now it’s time for Dr. Parker to get his killin’ groove on.

Hump Day Blah-Blah-Blah’s

Dang. Is it just me or is this week just d-r-r-r-r-ragging by? I want it to be Friday already so that I can put my brain on hold and drink some Guinness in pre-celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

“Bat Boy: The Musical” is very slowly chugging along. Our esteemed director took some steps yesterday to help us out with getting the time we need to finish up some of the things (dancing and such) that are currently missing from the show. So, we only sing and dance for the next few rehearsals and then we’ll be into running the show off book. Eeeeeep! It suddenly dropped on me like a bomb last night that it’s only a little over two weeks until I will be singing, dancing, going crazy and killin’ in front of a live theater audience. Double Dang!

FYI: “Dang!” is the new “Damn!”
