Finished and Done

“The Producers” is now history. It was a good run … and I can honestly say I am happy to see this one go. It was fun, but needed a huge amount of energy every time we performed. Somehow we all survived.

Now, hopefully, my brain will get back to some regularly scheduled posting.

Finished and Done

Too Old and Slow

The second weekend of “The Producers” is done. Halfway point!

I must be getting old. I have found this show to be particularly exhausting. Is it the show itself or the fact that I have been going since February? I started out directing “Rabbit Hole” in the Studio and then went right into rehearsals for “Honk!” and then right into “The Producers” after that. Gah!

Could my youthful energy be waning?

*GASP!*

Too Old and Slow

Post-Opening

Well, here we are. “The Producers” opened last night to a full house.

The show seemed to go good and the audience seemed to really dig it. We perform tonight and tomorrow night and then … *gasp* … three nights off!!!

How stoked am I that Dr. Phibes and Co. will be seeing the show this coming Thursday? Super Stoked!!!

Post-Opening

Already (Alrighty)!

My God.

It’s July already and time to take some stock of the year so far.

Nah. That’s silly ’cause all you be hearing about is theater, theater, theater. I haven’t even taken any time off from work other than the few paid holidays we get.

This boy needs a vacation in the worst way.

The arrival of July also means the arrival of the summer musical at HART. It’s hard to believe that one week from now we will be costumed and performing for people. You’d better get your tickets (on sale tomorrow)! It’s probably the only time you will ever get to see me in a singing and dancing in a dress and high heels.

Already (Alrighty)!

Frustrated!!! (Redux)

So, yeah … I am super frustrated with the way “The Producers” is going.

Last night’s rehearsal was for choreography for the numbers in Act One. Bear in mind that “Opening Night,” “King of Broadway” and “Along Came Bialy” have all been choreographed … three weeks ago. Well, last night they spent two hours running and re-running those numbers. Meanwhile, “Keep It Gay” and “Der Guten Tag Hop Clop” still haven’t been touched. We finally got around to “Keep It Gay” about 10:00 last night. Gah!!!

I am usually not and overly fussy person when I am in a show. But considering the fact that we only have this week and one more full week before tech … I am getting a little wound up. Just seems like a lot of time is being spent “refining” things that can be worked on during a normal run of Act One as opposed to taking large amounts of time for those numbers when others haven’t even been staged.

This sucks!

‘Cause I was so excited to be get cast in the show. Now I just want it to be over.

Frustrated!!!

How frustrated am I with “The Producers” right now?

VERY!

We are about 3-1/2 weeks out from opening and so far we haven’t really touched anything that I am in.

As of now, we have:
– Not choreographed or even basically staged “Keep It Gay”
– Not run through “It’s Bad Luck To Say Good Luck on Opening Night”
– Barely gone through “Springtime for Hitler”
– Not worked on the Tap Dancing solo I have in that number
– Not  touched “Prisoners of Love”

I went to rehearsal tonight and basically all I got to do was the one page lead in to “Keep It Gay” and that was pretty much it. Most of the time was spent running the opening of the show (“Opening Night” and “King of Broadway”) and the closing of Act One (“Along Came Bialy”). Not that these are not valid things to work on. It’s just frustrating that the solos and smaller numbers are getting shafted to spend time working (and re-working) big numbers that have already been staged.

Hopefully the rest of this week will go better … and I will get some direction on at least a few of the above mentioned points.

Gah!

Frustrated!!!

And I Should Be Arrested …

… for blog abuse.

So, sue me. Things have been nuts and have barely been able to focus on keeping all my shit together.

Plus, Facebook is evil. With Status Updates and Like Buttons and comments … it seems to be replacing blogging as the easy way to put yourself out there. I am gonna try not to let that happen and start keeping up better here.

“The Producers” has been rehearsing. We finished up the major music rehearsals last week. It’s been pretty brutal as I am singing higher than I think I ever have. Good to grow … but it made last week quite exhausting. Tonight we start dance rehearsals and that is gonna be pretty intense as well. We will be doing a “Tap Master Class.” I have to tap dance … YIKES!

Also, there has also been a huge amount of family drama going on. HUGE. I am gonna write out some thoughts on this sometime this week … ’cause I really need to vent some of the thoughts that have been swirling around in my brain. And if certain people read it and get pissed off … well, that is their problem.

In totally unrelated news … I have become totally smitten with a fella I recently met. I haven’t actually said this to him as I am fairly certain he’s figured it out already.

So …

The new watch words around here will be “Better Blogging.” Check back in tomorrow!
