“Seuss!”

Opening weekend of “Seussical” is done … and we all *somehow* survived it. If all accounts are true, we should have three reviews coming out in the next week. And *somehow* in the middle of all the mayhem I have developed yet another crush on yet another straight man. Stupid is as stupid does, I guess.

So, while I obsess over my obsessions, jump on inside for some more photos of the show. Continue reading ““Seuss!””

Tomorrow Night

After seven weeks of music, dance, staging and general insanity … “Suessical” opens and people get to see what’s under the hat! If you really are a friend, you’ll buy a ticket (even if you live all the way across the country).

The show is looking good, but I can’t say that I am going to miss the rehearsals. So, with some of my free time this weekend, I am going to get some pictures (not taken by me) of the show up. Stay tuned …

Low Battery Level

I am posting!!!

I don’t know what it is, but I just haven’t had the energy of focus to keep up with posting here. I think I am gonna blame it on “Seussical.” I have been thinking about it and I don’t know that I have ever directed a show quite this large. There are lots of things going on and lots of things to worry about.

We are three weeks out from opening. So, hopefully, once we get a little closer in with costumes and stuff … I’ll be posting some photos of what the madness looks like.

Meanwhile … we have finally hit Spring here in the mountains. Or, maybe you could say “summer” as the temps the past few days have been around 80 degrees. Yow!

R.I.P. Dave Guerin

I just heard that Dave Guerin passed away yesterday at the age of 93.

Anyone who has been involved with HART in the last 15 years knew Dave (or at least knew of him). He first stared doing shows with us in 1994 (he was 77) when we did “Annie Get Your Gun.” He played Buffalo Bill albeit a Buffalo Bill that could never remember to zip his fly. He kept popping up and doing shows over the years (“Diamond Studs,” “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” and “Parade” to name a few). His last show with us as a cast member was “Ragtime” in 2005. He had trouble with the few lines he had and everyone was kinda scared he was going to break his hip or just drop over dead. After “Ragtime,” he became a regular fixture at opening nights. He was always there with a smile and excitement to be seeing the show. He probably loved HART more than any of us could realize. Last year, we all noticed that he wasn’t coming to the opening nights anymore.

Dave had been in declining health the last few years, so news that he has passed on isn’t really a surprise. Just sad.

Now, I don’t want this to sound like I loved the man. Those of you who know me know that I had not a lot of patience with him. He did leave me onstage all by myself one time … and I have held a grudge over that.

But I do admire the man for his pluck (before his health got bad he was always scheming something or wanting to audition for a play or musical). He just loved being a part of the show. And to start doing something like live theater when you’re 77 and keep going from there is pretty damn cool.

So long, Dave.

Busy Body … Sorta

Lots of wee projects have been keeping me busy. This time of year always seems to get crazy with the design projects. Also, I have been working on putting a DVD together of “The Full Monty.” You remember that show we did way back in 2006. Well, the footage finally came into my possession, so I have been playing lots with iMovie and iDVD to get things together.

Who knows … maybe I will post the strip number here sometime. Heh.
