Wiggum’s Dream
I am feeling run down and kinda crappy today. So I will leave you with this little reminder …

After 5+ years of waiting, “Twin Peaks: The Second Season” drops into stores today (or last week if you’re Kim’s Video on St. Marks). Rumors are flying all over the net that there will be a big box set later this year containing Season One, Season Two and the original un-cut Pilot (which has never been available on video in the States). I will believe it when I see it. Anyhoo … go and waste some time with this great Guide to Twin Peaks.
For lack of anything better at this second … here’s a list of the next 20 movies that Netflix is sending my way.
01. “The Sea Inside”
02. “A Room With a View”
03. “Touching the Void”
04. “The Cider House Rules”
05. “Alphaville”
06. “Paradise Lost: Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills”
07. “Paradise Lost 2: Revelations”
08. “War-Gods of the Deep”
09. “House of Flying Daggers”
10. “Duel”
11. “Touch of Evil”
12. “The Barbarian Invasions”
13. “Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical”
14. “Gypsy”
15. “Auntie Mame”
16. “How to Marry a Millionaire”
17. “Titanic” (1953)
18. “The Lair of the White Worm”
19. “Blood Feast”
20. “Color Me Blood Red”

I watched John Cameron Mitchell’s “Shortbus” last night. It tells the story of New Yorkers looking for love and connection in the post 9/11 city. You might have heard of this movie because it features sex … graphic, in your face sex. I must confess that even in the confines of my home, I felt dirty and sorta pervy watching this film. The film wastes no time in hitting you in the face with it either. I guess the opening sequence was devised just to slap you and say “Yes, we are going to show you a little bit of everything.” I do feel like I need to watch “Shortbus” again now that the initial sex shock is past me and I can totally focus on the characters. The movie, to me, is somewhat of a downer. I have read some reviews that talk about the “uplifting” ending, but I came away with more a down feeling when the credits rolled. It’s like Justin Bond says at one point, “It’s just like the 60’s … only with less hope.”

And on a totally shallow note, I will say that my major disappointment with the movie is that the super cute Peter Stickles (he plays Caleb) wasn’t nearly naked enough.
So, take a guess who spent the evening obsessively checking his dvds to see which ones are anamorphic widescreen and which ones aren’t now that a new 16:9 Flat Panel LCD HDTV is now on is way?
1. “Casino Royale” is now out on DVD!
2. My Sharp Aquos 42″ LCD HDTV has been shipped!
3. Trim painting then left-overs for dinner!
I have a life that’s more exciting than a rock star’s.
Sounds like there gonna be some fun stuff coming out this year. Rumors are floating around on the ‘net that Lionsgate will be putting out 1987’s much requested (and very out of print) “The Monster Squad.” There are also rumors that Anchor Bay will be putting out a 2-disc special edition of my favorite Dario Argento movie “Tenebrae.” It’s also rumored that Kenneth Branagh’s “Hamlet” will be out before the end of summer. We know for sure that Anchor Bay is putting out a new 2-disc edition of “H.P. Lovecraft’s Re-Animator,” that great cult flick from the 80’s. Classic Media will be dropping more classic monster lizard mayhem onto disc. And in television news, we finally get “Twin Peaks: The Complete Second Season” (yes!) next month and “The Powerpuff Girls: The Complete First Season” in June.

This gives me a bigger boner than you can possibly imagine!!! Yeah!

Since January 16th (next week!) is fast approaching, I pre-ordered the “Doctor Who: The Complete Second Series” DVD set today.

Most of you know that I heart Dr. Phibes. He’s the coolest. Now, I must say that I REALLY, REALLY heart Dr. Phibes. He threatened to buy me the Complete First Series of the new Doctor Who for Christmas … and he so followed through on that threat. I got home Saturday afternoon and found an amazon.com box on my porch. Inside that box was lots of British nerdy joy!
So, Dr. Phibes … know that I heart you big time. And if you ever need a house boy or sex slave or someone to just wash your dishes or mow your lawn, I’ll be there for ya ’cause you rock.

So, down in the dumps boy needed some dvd distraction …

From davisdvd.com comes some exciting news!
Paramount Home Entertainment has finally revealed artwork and a release date for their upcoming and highly anticipated release of the second and final season of “Twin Peaks.” Newly posted listings by several Region 2 online retailers reveal that Twin Peaks: Season Two will be split into two halves, with the first three-disc boxed set due on January 31st, 2007 (happy birthday to me!) and the final half of the series due in April 2007. No official details have been released quite yet, but we do know that the episodes have been completely remastered by David Lynch with new high definition fullscreen transfers and remixed 5.1 tracks (possibly DTS). In the meantime, Amazon Germany has posted for the set.
It also appears, via Amazon Germany, that a Twin Peaks: the Complete Mystery is due in October 2007. Whether this the complete first two seasons combined together – including a high-def remastered pilot episode that was missing from Artisan’s 2001 box set – is as yet unknown. Stay tuned.
dugpa.com is also reporting this and saying that the U.S. release will have a May to June timelime. Maybe at some point there will be a Region 1 release of the original pilot episode. That would make life nice!
