For some reason, I have become super obsessed with this song.

Finally Acquired [Skinny Puppy Edition]
One of the things I was on the lookout in Toronto was original pressings of certain Skinny Puppy albums. The original Canadian pressings (the band is from Canada after all) of certain albums have cool designs or features not available on the pressing readily available in the States back in the 80’s. The original pressing of Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse has an insert with the track names (none were listed on the back) and a lock groove at the end of side two so that Burnt with Water plays on until you lift the needle. The original pressing of Cleanse Fold and Manipulate has really cool A & B Side labels on the vinyl. These pressings tend to be expensive to get here in the States and I was hoping to find them cheaper in their native country. I did not find these two …
Which brings me to VIVIsectVI, Skinny Puppy’s masterpiece. I LOVE this album and it has my favorite-est sleeve art ever. Plus, it’s the original pressing I have been wanting the most. I have been trying to find it for quite a few years but this particular pressing seems to be scarce and expensive to buy. Hell … any pressing of VIVIsectVI from 1988 is expensive. The original pressing of this album features a gatefold sleeve and the A & B Side labels have art that was used as the 12″ sleeve art for the first single. Steven R. Gilmore has been quoted as saying this his favorite of the sleeves he design for the band and that it was always intended to be a gatefold presentation. If the internet is to be believed, only 500-1,000 of these were made before they switched over to a single sleeve with the inner gatefold art being used to make the front/back of a printed inner sleeve for the record.
So, I was absolutely gobsmacked to have found a copy at Sonic Boom Records. And, it was reasonably priced too! Needless to say, I am pretty beside myself to finally own this. Now I just need to find those other two and my Skinny Puppy Vinyl Wishlist will be almost complete.

Today, I am all about the first part of Act I from the new Dead Can Dance album, Dionysus.
Laziness
Hi, Blog. I have been lazy about posting to you even though a few things have been going on.
The big thing was the cool Halloween party that the boyfriend and I threw this past Saturday. We had the house all decorated up with colored lights inside for a spooky atmosphere. Lots of folks came over dressed up in costume and everyone seemed to have a good time. I was dressed up as Robin (duh!) but felt really self conscience about the costume showing off my cock and balls to everyone. So maybe party goers got a show and maybe they didn’t. The party rocked on for quite a while. I got to bed around 3 AM. I am too old for that 3 AM shit.
On Sunday, we went and saw The Bad Seed at the local theater and then hit up the somewhat passable Chinese buffet we have in town. The show was pretty good. The buffet was … well … it was what it was.
I have freelance work I need to do but I just can’t seem to muster the energy for it. I also want to do some hikes and go to Biltmore. Again, I am being lazy about setting up plans for that as well.
So, yeah. Feeling lazy and uninspired about getting things done.
Maybe it’s the weather? We were sporting summer temperatures until about a week ago and then it suddenly became winter. Ugh. I wanted so nice moderate fall temperatures! Now everyone is having to run around in winter coats. Oh well.
Meanwhile … I am totally crushing on this song off John Grant’s new album.
MonsterFest Pre-Trippin’
The annual trek to Florida for a visit with Dr. Phibes and Co. (and celebrate MonsterFest) is upon us! There’s packing to do and work to catch up on before leaving. Thankfully I engineered it so that I don’t have to spend the whole evening doing laundry. Yay (said with enthusiasm).
How many horror movies will we consume this year? We shall know in the cold light of day on Monday.
So, tomorrow is a travel day. Yay (said with sarcasm).
Meanwhile … enjoy the Cocteau Twins’ swan song.

Completionist [Duran Duran Edition]

Thanks to the magic of the internet (hooray for Amazon Third Party Sellers and eBay), I now have a complete set of the deluxe editions EMI released of Duran Duran’s first five albums. I had originally picked up their self-titled debut and Seven and the Ragged Tiger but missed out on getting the ones for Rio, Notorious, and Big Thing while they were still readily available. Now I have them all. Yay!
My OCD goes a little wild when looking at these stacked together. I am not sure why they did a book style package for Rio and clam shell boxes for all the rest. Consistency, people!
Coming Next Month …

Vinyl (and CD) reissues of This Mortal Coil‘s three albums are coming next month! *drools*

Love is Magic, the new album from John Grant, will be released one day before my birthday. Yay! Get thee to pre-ordering. Deluxe 2XLP for me, please!
And … John Grant is another artist like that will be touring nowhere near me. Oh well.
Listen Now [Too Busy Edition]
Things have been a bit busy this week and I am way too easily distracted.
In the meantime, listen to this excellent new track from Róisín Murphy!

The new single from The Twilight Sad has dropped … and I am really digging it. Though I am totally bummed they are not touring anywhere close to me. Oh well …
More Records!
After spending way too much money on them, I am super excited to have added the following original pressings to my collection:
– Cocteau Twins‘ Treasure
– Cocteau Twins’ Victorialand
– This Mortal Coil‘s Filigree & Shadow
I am especially knocked out about getting Treasure. It’s been on my want list for a long time and I just happened to get hold of it through sheer luck. Thanks to that mystery customer who had it on hold and then (for some reason) decided not to buy it and thus allowed me to. Woot!
