Happy 30th!
30 years ago today, Disintegration was released! This is The Cure firing on all cylinders. It’s a masterwork with the singles including four really excellent B-sides. This album was the capper to my senior year in high school with me riding around all summer in the 1979 Ford Mustang I had at the time blasting it at full volume. I also remember buying the cassette single of “Lovesong” at The Rhythm Section on a trip to Gatlinburg with my dad. I can’t remember where my mom and sister were and why it was just Dad and I on that trip. I do remember Dad napping in the passenger seat as we made our way home through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on a bright sunny day. I eventually ended up buying the Integration box set so that I could have all the non-album tracks. Seriously. Those B-sides are so good.
I always find it strange and interesting just which albums make a big impact on our lives. I can say that The Cure have a few albums that have done that to me with Disintegration being the one with biggest impact. I suspect it’s because this album came right at the moment of a lot of change in my life as I went from high school (I was 17 when I graduated) and stumbled my way into adulthood and a schedule of full time school and full time work.
Anyhoo … if you are not familiar with Disintegration, you should immediately find it on your favorite streaming service or get old school and track down the excellent 3-Disc Deluxe Edition.
Still Obsessed
I am pretty excited to have been able to grab the Prom Night Soundtrack in the Disco Acid Flashback and Bloody Disco Ball variants from 1984 Publishing! This release features art by “Ghoulish” Gary Pullin, has a gatefold cover, and also comes with a custom “tuxedo black” condom. This soundtrack has been on my “most wanted” list for a long time. Squee!!!

And … I am stupid excited to have landed a copy of the Blood on Black Wax (RSD Edition) with limited edition “Blood Red” Prom Night 7″ Single! I am bit Prom Night obsessed as it’s one of my favorites from the golden age of the slasher movie. I mean … c’mon. How can you not love a horror movie that has a Jamie Lee Curtis led disco dance sequence right in the middle of it?! I might have bought two copies of this because I am that obsessed. There’s one to open and play and one to keep sealed. Woot!
Oh yeah! It’s prom night and everything is alright.
Too Busy
The weekend and today have been too busy.

Monday Blah’s
I woke up late this morning and that discombobulated the whole day. Ugh.
And it’s not like the weekend was super busy to make me exhausted so that I slept through the alarm. It was actually pretty lazy. I mostly just a lot of sat around and watched stuff.
Here are Some Things that Happened Over the Weekend:
– Saw Red at the theater.
– Drank some Lagunitas Brown Shugga’. It’s a damn fine beer.
– Started watching Penny Dreadful. So far, so good.
– Walked around the Lake.
– Took a nap!
– Watched Hell Fest. Mindless but fun.
– Watched The Strangers: Prey at Night. Annoyingly stupid at points.
– Did a very, very small amount of freelance work.
– Watched Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Amazing animation!
– Bought four hex bolts and Blueberry Cobbler Cheddar Cheese.
– Watched Crooked House. A fairly descent who-dunnit.
Thank goodness we had some sun on Saturday. Any break in the monotony of the dreary, rainy weather that has become the standard here is like a life line. We went from Dreary, Rainy Friday to Sunny Saturday to Cold, Gross, Rainy Sunday. Today was also cold and gross. Quadruple Ugh. I am over it!

Waxworks Records has released CRUISING Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and Score. It’s a 3-LP colored vinyl edition of the complete soundtrack to William Friedkin’s controversial 1980 movie. The package is designed by Aesthetic Apparatus and looks amazing. Get it!
Word on the street is that Arrow Video is going to be releasing Cruising on Blu-ray sometime in the near future. I am pretty pumped about that! Check out the trailer …

On a Related Note: It looks like my order for the Exclusive Deluxe Edition CD of Ladytron is now in limbo thanks to Pledge Music’s jackassery. If you look on Ladytron’s campaign page, that’s a lot of items bought that may never make to the fans. Apparently all the merchandise is ready and in some shipping facility in the UK. Everything is being held hostage by Pack Smart Ltd. because Pledge Music hasn’t paid them anything for the fulfillment service and there apparently isn’t anything Ladytron can do about it. Ugh. This really sucks. (#FWP)
C’mon Weekend
This week has been a bit too busy. I have had regular work and I am trying to get a head start of some of the stuff (posters, banners, ads) for the theater. So, work all day and most of the evening. Yay. All the while I may have been eating too many All Dressed chips. Yum!
