Dead Can Dance … for Franke.
Out of This World
My brain is kinda shot in terms of posting anything uber exciting. Been watching “Bleak House” and am really liking it so far. Saw “Picnic at Hanging Rock” over the weekend and thought it was a really excellent movie. I am going off caffiene (that sucks). We start rehearsals for “Art” tonight. And, I have been listening to a little too much Dead Can Dance. Man-oh-man are they great.
We scaled the face of reason
To find at least one sign
That could reveal the true dimensions
Of life lest we forget
And maybe its easier to withdraw from life
With all of its misery and wretched lies
Away from harm
We lay by cool still waters
And gazed into the sun
And like the moths great imperfection
Succumbed to her fatal charm
Any maybe its me who dreams unrequited love
The victim of fools who watch and stand in line
Away from harm
In our vain pursuit of life for ones own end
Will this crooked path ever cease to end

Post-Holiday Life Soundtrack
I really don’t have much to say today. Thanksgiving at Roger and Kat’s rocked out ’cause the company was goood and the food yummy.
But, today I am all run out.
So, now amuse yourself with a “If Your Life Was a Movie What Would the Soundtrack Be” meme … found via one or two (or three) other bloggers.
“If Your Life Was a Movie What Would the Soundtrack Be”
The rules:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc.).
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play.
4. For every question, type the song that’s playing.
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button.
6. Don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool.
Opening Credits:
“It’s No Good” by Depeche Mode
“I have all the time in world to make you mine. It is written in the stars above … you can run but you cannot hide.”
Waking Up:
“The Night I Fell in Love” by The Pet Shop Boys
Hmmmmmm. Gay Boy makes it with supposed Straight Boy. Sounds like a kick I have been on before (Evil One).
First Day at School:
“Complication” by Nine Inch Nails
A NIN instrumental track … fast and loud.
Falling In Love:
“A Thousand Hours” by The Cure (Studio Demo)
“A thousand wasted hours a day just to fill your heart for a second …”
Sounds very familiar.
Fight Song:
“Give Me It” by The Cure (Studio Demo)
Works for me.
Breaking Up:
“This Corrosion” by The Sisters of Mercy
Hmmmmmm. Not sure this would be an idea breakup song.
Prom:
“Maxine” by Donald Fagen
I could see this as a slow dance at the Prom.
Life:
“Some Speculation” by The Pet Shop Boys
Dark. Thumping. Mistrust and Deceit.
Mental Breakdown:
“Sexbomb” by Tom Jones
Hmmmmmm. This is about as far from a mental breakdown that you can get.
Driving:
“Shopping” by The Pet Shop Boys
Peppy song but something is telling me I have too much Pet Shop Boys on my iPod.
Flashback:
“In Your House” by The Cure (Live in Amsterdam)
Good flashback song. Definately from the period of the first boyfriend.
Getting Back Together:
“Fight” by The Cure
“Never give in.”
I guess this works … and also informs me I have too much Cure on the iPod as well.
Wedding:
“The Carnival is Over” by Dead Can Dance
Oh-So Somber … fitting for the fact that I will never be “married.”
Birth of Child:
“Crooked Teeth” by Death Cab for Cutie
Pop hooks … that’s about it. Might work for the bouncing baby that I won’t ever have.
Final Battle:
“Sugar Hiccup” by The Cocteau Twins
Yes. I am a Pansy and this is my Final Battle Song.
Death Scene:
“Bruce Lee” by Underworld
“They’ve got the wrong bloke.”
Indeed.
Funeral Song:
“Shoplifters of the World Unite” by The Smiths
And Always …
End Credits:
“I Didn’t Know About You” by Ella Fitzgerald
Love. That would be nice.
Lazy Post: “For Love”
From Lush … one of the truly great bands from the late 80’s/early 90’s.
Some Audio/Visual Stimulation
Daft Punk – Around the World
Ah, youtube.com … you make lazy posting so much fun!
Happy Halloween (Phibes Edition)

This a special dedicated post to Dr. Phibes! Usually, this past weekend would have been my trip off to eat junk food, drink to much Guinness and watch waaaay too many monster movies with Dr. Phibes and Company. Dr. Phibes is now in one of the fun horror spots of the world and I was laid up sick all weekend … so no Monster Fest for us this year. It’s really hard to believe that a year has already ticked by since the last gathering.
Dr. Phibes, hope you are doing spankingly well and not being run crazy by too many sand fleas! I have been thinking about you (and yours).
So, here’s some music just for you on this Halloween Day, 2006.
Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” – Main Theme [5.32 MB]
Baby, Leave Me Out
No meaning to this post … other than A) this song rocks B) the video is awesome and C) Grace Jones is a Goddess!
In Time for the Holidays

I am not one for Chritsmas music … unless it’s the Vince Guaraldi soundtrack to “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” But, I will probably have to pick up the new album from Aimee Mann that drops into stores next Tuesday (the 24th). It’s Christmas classics plus two new holiday songs written by Aimee. Smoooooth.
Aimee Mann: “One More Drifter in the Snow”
01. “Whatever Happened To Christmas”
02. “The Christmas Song”
03. “Christmastime”
04. “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”
05. “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch”
06. “Winter Wonderland”
07. “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”
08. “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”
09. “White Christmas”
10. “Calling On Mary”
“Candyman”
Because Siouxsie and the Banshees’ “Tinderbox” is still one of the greatest albums of the 1980’s …
“Empte” (GWOTR Live)
Beacuse Skinny Puppy still pretty much kicks everyone’s ass …
