Award Winning

Well, our show didn’t win at competition this past weekend. Kinda a bummer, but it means that we won’t have to worry about it again in March when SCTC hits. The show that beat us was good. I don’t think that we should feel bad about not continuing forward. I did, however, receive “Best Actor” at the competition. Pretty sweet!

Random Thursday Thoughts

1. Still in a pretty foul mood today.
2. Currently watching “Tanner ’88” on DVD. I heart Robert Altman.
3. An e-mail today said “I miss you!” Take a wild guess who that was from.
4. I have adopted a “Beautiful Mutant.”
5. Off to NCTC Competition in Salisbury tomorrow. We perform Saturday.
6. Probably gonna try WordPress if I can ever figure out how to make it run.

PLUS!
Isn’t it great how Bush used divisive issues (abortion rights, gay rights) to win the election and then pledges “unity” for his second term? Fucker.

Crushed

I feel so sick right now … Bush has won. My friends (dumb enough to vote for that asshole) had better not gloat. They will get told off.

Back when I was in High School, my World History teacher told us that the United States would eventually fall like the Roman empire did. I knew she was correct. I just was hoping that it wouldn’t happen in my lifetime.

Well, here we are. Let’s all meet in four years and see how good our beloved country is doing.

Damn. I need a drink.

This news makes me happier than the announcement of The Cure’s B-Side Box Set. Whoo!

Ultimate Siouxsie and the Banshees B-Sides Collection. Includes 55 tracks, 34 on CD for the first time, a 76 page booklet with an introduction by Siouxsie plus a track annotation by Sioux, Steven Severin, and Budgie.

Tracks 1-6 on Disc Two are from the Hyaena sessions when Robert Smith of The Cure was an official member of the band. One of those tracks, Tattoo, is very reminiscent of The Creatures.

Like many of SATB’s B-Sides, Something Wicked (This Way Comes) and Are You Still Dying Darling? are arguably better songs than the ones found on the album they were left off of.

No news yet of a domestic release.

D.R.A.M.A.

Nights like last night make me want to crawl under a rock and ignore those family obligations we all have to put up with. My sister and her husband are separating. It’s not been pretty. Last night I got to go help her pack dishes, clothes, books and anything else her husband deemed she could have. It was fun, let me tell ya. My sister had packed nothing, so we had to run around like maniacs … wrapping dished, throwing things into boxes. She was wired and kept fussing at me because I didn’t have a lot to say about the whole thing. The husband called while we were there and they spent the next 30 minutes yelling at each other. Bad thing about this is that their three-year-old daughter is caught in the middle of all this. Grrrrr. I get to go back again tonight and help move some furniture that he is letting her have. I am looking so forward to it.

Saw: Some Thoughts

“Saw” helps prove that the much talked about horror movie revival isn’t really happening. A horror movie doesn’t function if you can’t build some tension, show some gore and have characters that we can actually root for. “Saw” take a good premise and waters it down with bad acting, overly arty direction and super-silly plot twists. The movie centers on two fellas trapped in a nasty bathroom and trying to escape from Jigsaw, a killer who has little moral lessons he wants his victims to learn. We start in that bathroom and find out about Jigsaw through a series of flashbacks. And just how exactly are we supposed to be scared of something that has already happened? These flashbacks help kill any tension that the director trys to build. Then there are the actors. Cary Elwes and Leigh Whannell (vanity casting if there ever was such a case … he wrote the screenplay) are so bad that you really could care less what happens to them. I was actually rooting for Cary Elwes to buy it before the end just so we wouldn’t have to endure any more of his “emotional” outbursts (see above photo for an example). Danny Glover does his typical “good cop” routine. Haven’t we seen that in about a thousand movies already? Grrrrrr. If you want a good serial killer/morality play just watch “Seven” again. It’s a great example of how a movie’s tone and mood can creep you out without showing you lots of violence just for violence sake.

Orders From the Dead

“MY DEATHBIRD is Not DEAD.
HE CARRIES ALL MY TEETH: MY SMILE OF UNFORGETFULNESS, MY LAUGH!

VRYKOLAKA!

I am the man unburied who CANNOT sleep IN FORTY PIECES!!!!!

I am the girl, dismembered and unblessed,

I am the open mouth that drags your flesh and will never rest until
MY DEATH IS WRITTEN IN A ROCK THAT CAN NOT BE BROKEN!”

And these are the orders from The Dead.

More To Do …

How silly of me. I didn’t want black bookcases after all. Metal is the way to go! I think these will look really cool with my computer desk (which has a silver base and frosted glass top). Just gotta get the shelves painted to match the molding. Will the painting ever end?
