{"id":3308,"date":"2009-08-13T21:18:17","date_gmt":"2009-08-14T01:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cgm13.net\/wordpress\/?p=3308"},"modified":"2009-08-13T21:18:17","modified_gmt":"2009-08-14T01:18:17","slug":"viva-la-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theboywonder.net\/?p=3308","title":{"rendered":"Viva La France!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Matryrs\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.theboywonder.net\/images\/09192.jpg?w=405\" alt=\"\"  \/><br \/>\nI will say that I find the &#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Splatter_film#.22Torture_porn.22\" target=\"_blank\">torture porn<\/a><\/strong>&#8221; sub-genre of horror to be quite low class and without much merit &#8230; but if more of said films were made some intelligence and flair then I could easily change my mind.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Martyrs_(film)\" target=\"_blank\">Martyrs<\/a><\/strong>&#8221; (France, 2008) knocked my socks of. I didn&#8217;t know much about the premise of the film other than a wee bit of the blurb on Netflix.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Years after she escaped from an icy torture chamber in an abandoned slaughterhouse, Lucie enlists the help of her closest friend, Anna, to track down the family who tormented her and exact her revenge.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Martyrs\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.theboywonder.net\/images\/09193.jpg?w=405\" alt=\"\"  \/><br \/>\nSounds like a pretty simple revenge film, doesn&#8217;t it? But, what you get is a tale that mixes several horror genre elements into one very\u00a0brutal and very bloody cocktail.\u00a0&#8220;Martyrs&#8221; does take an unexpected detour about 3\/4 of the way through. Honestly, the less you know going in, the better. I was totally unprepared for the final act of the movie.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Martyrs&#8221; follows on the heels of other envelope pushing French films such as &#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High_Tension\" target=\"_blank\">Haute Tension<\/a><\/strong>,&#8221; &#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inside_(2007_film)\" target=\"_blank\">\u00c3\u20ac l&#8217;int\u00c3\u00a9rieur<\/a><\/strong>&#8221; and &#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frontier(s)\" target=\"_blank\">Fronti\u00c3\u00a8re(s)<\/a><\/strong>.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0If this tend continues, I could become a total convert!<\/p>\n<p>Because, it certainly appears that France is the current king of splatter.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Martyrs\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.theboywonder.net\/images\/09194.jpg?resize=405%2C275\" alt=\"\" width=\"405\" height=\"275\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I will say that I find the &#8220;torture porn&#8221; sub-genre of horror to be quite low class and without much merit &#8230; but if more of said films were made some intelligence and flair then I could easily change my mind. &#8220;Martyrs&#8221; (France, 2008) knocked my socks of.
