Case in point is &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0107843\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Point of No Return<\/strong><\/a>&#8221; (and also the television series &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.popmatters.com\/tv\/reviews\/l\/la-femme-nikita.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>La Femme Nikita<\/strong><\/a>&#8220;), the pointless remake of Luc Besson&#8217;s 1990 film &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/frenchfilms.topcities.com\/nf_Nikita_rev.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Nikita<\/strong><\/a>.&#8221; Another great example is the dumbing down of <a href=\"http:\/\/criterionco.com\/asp\/release.asp?id=133\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>George Sluizer&#8217;s super creepy &#8220;Spoorloos&#8221;<\/strong><\/a> with the ultra-bad &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.moria.co.nz\/horror\/vanishing93.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Vanishing<\/strong><\/a>&#8221; in 1993. A couple of years ago Chris Nolan did a pretty good job at American-izing &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0278504\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Insomnia<\/strong><\/a>&#8221; &#8230; but I just gotta tell you how fantastic the original Norwegian\/Swedish film is. <a href=\"http:\/\/criterionco.com\/asp\/release.asp?id=47\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Erik Skjoldbj\u00e6rg&#8217;s &#8220;Insomnia&#8221;<\/strong><\/a> (from 1997) features an excellent performance by <a href=\"http:\/\/imdb.com\/name\/nm0001745\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/strong><\/a> as disgraced Swedish detective Jonas Engstr\u00f6m. No &#8220;Hollywood&#8221; conventions are needed to propel the story. It&#8217;s character driven all the way. The cinematography and design of the movie is very cold and harsh.
